The Story of the Gargunnock Drum and Bugle

Hillview on the left was where the last Provost (Draper) lived, hence perhaps Provost Park across the road

The original drum, above, and right, the painted design in as much detail as could reasonably be extracted.      As can be seen the design is somewhat less than symmetrical suggesting that a non-professional hand was at work here.

It had been hoped that a recording of the sound of the drum could be made but its condition didn’t allow for more than a gentle tap.

My  camera, applied to the tiny sound hole and with a light shining on the top skin, managed to photograph the remains of a paper label on the inside, perhaps placed there for identification during repairs.  Only  the word “Gargunnock” can be, for certain, deciphered.
